In this workshop, participants will set the foundation for creating a thinking classroom culture. By incorporating these strategies into our teaching practice,we can maximize engagement and thinking as well as create a classroom environment that nurtures curiosity, problem-solving, and collaboration among students. The practices discussed will intertwine with, and make extensive references to, the recently published book, Building Thinking Classrooms (Grades K-12): 14 Teaching Practices for Enhancing Learning.
This session will explore the last three shfits of six principles of Shifting the Balance and how to bring the Science of Reading into primary reading instruction. The shift focuses on bringing strong phonemic awareness into the primary classroom.
